The Importance of Installing a Knox Box for Emergency Access
To all residential and commercial property owners within the Village of Chatham and the Chatham Fire Protection District:
Ensuring rapid, damage-free access to your property during an emergency is one of the most effective ways you can support your local fire department and protect your home or business.
When an alarm activates and no key holder is available, firefighters must gain entry immediately—often requiring forced entry that can damage doors, frames, or windows.
A Knox Box provides a secure, UL-approved solution. These hardened key boxes allow the Chatham Fire Department to access your property quickly using a department-controlled master key. This protects your building, reduces response time, and improves safety for both occupants and firefighters.
Why Install a Knox Box?
● Prevents property damage by eliminating the need to force entry during emergencies.
● Ensures rapid access when alarms activate and no key holder is present.
● Meets NYS Fire Code requirements for commercial buildings with fire alarm systems (Section 506.1).
● Approved and keyed specifically for the Chatham Fire Department.
