Water and Sewer Services

The Village of Chatham provides potable water and sanitary sewer service to properties inside the Village limits, as well as to certain properties outside the Village that contract for service.


Quarterly Billing & Payment Deadlines

Water and sewer statements are issued quarterly in March, June, September, and December.

  • The balance is due within 30 days of the billing date, without penalty.
  • A 2% penalty is added after 30 days past due.
  • If full payment is not received within 60 days, water service may be shut off.
  • If service is shut off, there is a $25 disconnection fee plus an additional $25 reconnection fee when turning service back on.
  • Any outstanding balance for the sewer portion of the bill remaining unpaid after April 15 shall be immediately relevied to the Village of Chatham property tax roll for the parcel associated with the respective water and sewer account.

In April 2025, the Village Board approved the following reduced water and sewer rates, effective June 1, 2025.

Payment Options

The Village of Chatham is implementing new online payment systems to improve convenience and expand available services. The new systems provide consistent and predictable fee structures with multiple payment methods, including credit/debit cards and electronic check (ACH).

Utility and Miscellaneous Payments

  • Credit/Debit Cards: 2.95%
  • eCheck (ACH): $1.95

Tax Payments

  • Credit Cards: 2.95% (minimum $2.00)
  • eCheck (ACH): $2.00 (for payments up to $50,000, with verification)

Processing fees are charged by third-party providers and are not retained by the Village.

There is no fee for payments made by cash or check in person or by mail.


Tips & Additional Information

  • Shutoff notices: If a bill remains unpaid beyond 60 days and service is terminated, you must settle the past due balance and pay all associated fees before service is restored.
  • Maintenance & flushing: Hydrants may be flushed periodically to clear sediment. Notices are posted on the Village website, Facebook, and in the Village newsletter.
  • Lead service line identification: The Village may provide guidance or outreach regarding lead service lines on properties.
  • Questions or disputes: Contact the Village Clerk’s Office to review bills, dispute charges, or request adjustments.
