2026 Columbia County Fair: Traffic and Parade Information
The Columbia County Fair will take place Wednesday, September 2 through Monday, September 7, 2026, bringing increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the Village of Chatham.
The Chatham Police Department, in partnership with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, will implement enhanced traffic and public safety measures throughout Fair week.
Residents, commuters, and visitors should expect increased traffic, particularly along Hudson Avenue/State Route 66, Church Street/State Route 203, and streets surrounding the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time and use caution when traveling through the area.
Wednesday, September 2 – 250th Anniversary Fireworks
The Columbia County Fairgrounds will host a special fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Increased traffic is expected in and around the fairgrounds before and particularly following the fireworks. Motorists should anticipate delays and use additional caution due to increased vehicle and pedestrian activity.
Saturday, September 5 – Firefighters’ Parade
The annual Columbia County Firefighters’ Parade will step off at 11:00 a.m.
Multiple streets throughout the Village will be temporarily closed or restricted during the parade. Parking restrictions will also be in effect along portions of the parade route, including Kinderhook Street and Woodbridge Avenue.
Traffic through and around the Village will be heavily impacted before, during, and immediately following the parade. Motorists who are not attending the parade or Fair are encouraged to avoid the area when possible and use alternate routes.
Temporary Traffic Pattern Changes
Motorists traveling on Hudson Avenue/State Route 66 near the main fairgrounds entrance will encounter temporary lane and traffic-pattern changes.
Cones, signs, barriers, and law enforcement personnel will be in place to help safely move vehicles and pedestrians through the area.
Drivers should:
Reduce their speed;
Remain alert for pedestrians;
Follow all posted signs; and
Follow directions from law enforcement personnel.
Public Safety During Fair Week
The Chatham Police Department will maintain an increased presence throughout the Village during the Fair, with officers assigned outside the fairgrounds each day to assist with traffic and pedestrian safety.
Everyone traveling through Chatham during Fair week is asked to be patient, watch for pedestrians, and allow extra time to reach their destination.
