Columbia County Declares State of Emergency & Countywide Travel Advisory

Columbia County has declared a State of Emergency and issued a Countywide Travel Advisory effective 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, due to excessive rainfall, widespread flooding, and forecasts calling for additional rain. The declaration is currently scheduled to remain in effect until 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, unless extended or rescinded by the County.

Residents are strongly encouraged to:

• Avoid unnecessary travel and stay off the roads whenever possible.

• Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around—don't drown.

• If travel is necessary, use extreme caution and avoid areas with known flooding.

• Check current road conditions and closures before leaving home.

These measures are intended to protect public safety and allow emergency responders and highway crews to respond safely and efficiently throughout Columbia County.

The Village of Chatham encourages all residents to monitor official updates from Columbia County and New York State and to use caution during this weather event.
